Year 4 pupils participated enthusiastically in the Classrooms to Care Homes campaign, launched by the Times Educational Supplement (TES) this Christmas.

TES had asked schools across the country to connect with care homes this winter and spread a little joy and laughter with festive letters.

During a PSHCE lesson with Principal, Ms Rutterford, Year 4 were encouraged to let their creativity loose. As a result a mail bag full of vibrantly coloured and festively decorated cards containing messages of hope and love is now on its way to St Vincent's Care Home, in Hammersmith in time for Christmas.

“The messages in their letters are so moving,” said Ms Rutterford, who has overseen the project. “They’ve seen this as an opportunity to thank those who have worked so hard, and to spread cheer to those most isolated during the pandemic. I’m so proud of them all.”

“During the lockdown this Spring, a Year 10 pupil, Nina, was recognised by the Prime Minister for the intergenerational initiative she set up, pairing school children with older people who were isolated. I was so impressed at what she had done, that when I saw the TES campaign, I knew it would be a perfect activity for our pupils. And they really have loved doing it. I hope many of them will think of doing more things like this in future.”
