Having successfully completed their specialist anti-bullying behaviour training with The Diana Award team in January, our Latymer Prep Anti-Bullying Ambassadors introduced themselves to the whole school at a special assembly on Monday.
The Diana Award was founded as a legacy to Diana, Princess of Wales’ belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better. Its mission is to foster, develop and inspire positive change in the lives of young people.
The 20 volunteer pupils from Years 4 and 5 have worked together and acquired vital skills that will enable them to support other children and change attitudes and behaviours. Through the training they have built up their skills and confidence to enable them to address different situations, both online and off.
The Diana Award’s Anti-Bullying Ambassador Programme is available to schools across the UK. Specialist trainers work with students and other young people to change young people’s awareness and attitudes surrounding bullying. The programme has a strong peer-to-peer focus, with trainers giving young people the skills and confidence to become Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and tackle bullying behaviour whether in their schools or in their lives outside of school. The Diana Award’s anti-bullying work is recognised as world-class thanks to this sustainable approach.
Miss Airey, who has been supporting the pupils through their Anti-Bullying Ambassador journey said: “The training looked at bullying in different situations including face-to-face and online. Pupils then had to make an action plan of how to approach bullying issues when they arise and they’ve fully committed to their roles as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. We are very proud of them and excited about how they’ll now take their training forward with anti-bullying behaviour projects and campaigns.”
