Year 6 ran a fantastic book fair during the week of World Book Day.
The children took over the event and treated it is as a business project, beginning by applying for jobs which they felt were of interest to them. The Year 6 students took their ‘jobs’ very seriously. There was a real build-up to the event with the advertising teams and display specialists making sure everyone was aware of the Book Fair and when and where it was happening.
Great thought went into the design and decoration of the ‘shop’ and once the Fair opened, it was all hands on deck. Managers organised rotas and ensured everything ran smoothly. Event co-ordinators ran a quiz, a lucky dip, a target game and the sale of bookmarks decorated by Year 5, to raise money for the Na’an Kuse Foundation. Talented Year 6 pianists played well-known tunes while others sang along creating a warm and fun atmosphere. The browsing supervisors and customer service assistants helped the younger children to find age appropriate books and shared their personal knowledge of the stories to inspire readers, as well as handling cash sales and taking orders.
After the Fair the accountants counted the money while the inventory specialists checked, organised and re-ordered stock.
Year 6 were so mature and truly rose to the occasion despite the freezing weather conditions. It was, therefore, no surprise that the total sales were just over £1000, of which we receive 60% commission to spend on books for the school.
An incredible effort and a credit to all the very impressive Year 6 children.
